Death Stranding 2 On The Beach Set To Launch On PS5 In 2025
2024-12-18
Scheduled for a 2025 release on the PS5, Death Stranding 2 has been officially acknowledged by its creative director, Hideo Kojima. With its title revealed formally in February 2024, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will once again thrust us back into a bizarre and challenging world, engaging us beyond the borders of the United Cities of America (UCA). Lead character Sam Porter Bridges navigates through, attempting to unite a fresh populace, while dealing with supernatural adversaries, erratic environmental conditions, and even more daunting landscapes.
Seemingly more ambitious than its predecessor, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach has led to high anticipation among its fan base. Many are eagerly awaiting whether the sequel will retain and surpass the essence of the original Death Stranding game, acknowledged as one of the PS4's finest games. As for now, most of the visuals are held back by Kojima, with no new trailers launched during The Game Awards 2024. However, glimpses through teasers and insights shared by Kojima's assistant, Ayako Terashima, suggest the game is already in test mode by the development team.
This isn't the only game under development by Hideo Kojima, with others at Xbox's OD production and PlayStation-exclusive title Physint also in progress. Regardless, the arrival of Death Stranding 2 remains one of the most-awaited upgrades for the PS5 gaming community.
Death Stranding 2 Release date in 2025
While Kojima Productions has unveiled that Death Stranding 2 will be launched sometime in 2025, a specific release date is yet to be confirmed.
However, we can expect updates regarding the full release date in the following months, as indicated during the Tokyo Game Show 2024. Even though there has been no other news about the game, Kojima assured that Death Stranding 2 is on its way.
"The game will be available next year, and the announcement will follow at some time in 2025, although we cannot reveal it today due to unpredictable circumstances," stated Kojima.
Even though the nature of any unforeseen hurdles remains under wraps, the good news is that the upcoming PS5 exclusive will indeed be titled "Death Stranding 2: On the Beach". Stay tuned for further updates on the release date.
Death Stranding 2 Platforms
Right now, Death Stranding 2 is confirmed to be released on PS5, with no further revelations from Kojima Productions about it being available on other platforms.
When the first game was launched in 2019, it was exclusive to PS4. However, Publisher 505 Games expanded the availability of Death Stranding onto PC in 2020, and later, Death Stranding: Director's Cut came to both PS5 and PC Game Pass. If projections hold, it's highly likely that Death Stranding 2 will continue to be a long-standing PS5 exclusive, considering PlayStation Studios' immense contribution to its production, but it's certainly possible that PC gamers will also get to partake soon—Sony's ongoing sizable investments into the non-PlayStation realm indicate as much.
Death Stranding 2 Trailer
The original Death Stranding 2 trailer was showcased at The Game Awards 2022. Despite not reflecting any direct in-game play, the four-minute teaser provided a glimpse into how the world and its characters have evolved. Unquestionably, the trailer is content-rich enough to stir up discussions and speculation.
During the 2024 Tokyo Game Show, fresh footage of Death Stranding 2 was unveiled. The first part introduced us to the existing character Fragile and new face Tarman, voiced by George Miller, the famed Mad Max director. The subsequent parts that followed introduced two young girls discussing their shared history and their pregnancies. The duo is named Tomorrow, voiced by Elle Fanning, and Rainy. While the clip doesn't show much gameplay, it does hint at intriguing potential partnerships.
Another exciting clip showcases the game's new photo mode, demonstrating how characters will pose and interact with the camera, making your photos look more professional and attractive. We are enthused to delve into the game!

The Storyline of Death Stranding 2
Through the first few Death Stranding 2 trailers, we're presented with the overarching theme: Should we have connected? The trailers abound in peculiar and astonishing events, testing our deductions while we try to figure everything out.
We're introduced to an older Sam Porter, a fully recovered Fragile, and a cult worshipping the extinction entities led by a character donning Amelie's necklace, hairstyle, and concealing their face with Higgs's traditional death mask. The scenario alludes to multiple alternate realities connected through the beach, with chances of encountering versions of Sam Porter, BB, Lou, Fragile, and others. Unraveling the interconnected details will certainly be a lengthy quest.
However, what we're certain of is that Hideo Kojima completely revised the entire storyline of Death Stranding 2 following the COVID-19 pandemic. Speaking at The Game Awards 2022, the director revealed his decision: "Pre-pandemic, the story was already written. However, my experiences throughout the pandemic compelled me to rewrite the story from scratch." Kojima humorously added, concerning his prediction of future events through games like Metal Gear Solid 2 and Death Stranding, "I refrained from predicting any more futures and decided to rewrite it."
Though the exact storyline of Death Stranding 2 remains undisclosed, Kojima Productions sheds light on what lays ahead: "In Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, venture on an awe-inspiring human connection mission beyond the UCA. Sam – with his companions – embarks on a new journey to save humanity from extinction. As they navigate a world fraught with supernatural enemies, barriers, and an eerie question: should we have connected?"
